New Toastman Builds

August 3 2011

Toastman-RT-1.28.7479
Toastman-VLAN-BETA-1.28.4402 (also includes VLAN-GUI)

DLNA updated to 1.0.21
HFS/HFS+ Mac OS x read support by Victek
SNMP integrated by Shibby

New filters added to qos-ctrate & detailed pages (Nice work by Teaman)
New cosmetics changes to many pages. This makes these pages extremely
useful for monitoring purposes.

Pages which may be used for realtime monitoring now have
the ability to "hide" much of the extra setup entry boxes, leaving
the page clearer for the lists.

i am looking for a tomatousb

i am looking for a tomatousb build with the same broadcom driver as ddwrt 14929. i love the functionality of tomato but the wireless performance is horrible. and when i go to mount my WD 1tb mybook essential to ddwrt 14929 or any other ddwrt build it is not recognized. So toastman tomato/regular tomato = great features... ddwrt= great router but i want both.

Tomato usb 1.28.9054 MIPSR2-beta K26 USB Ext is a comparitively old version of TomatoUSB.

Try the version that Toastman just posted. There are MANY improvements in it. I am currently running the VLAN beta but so far it works well for my purpose with no issues. If you do not want to be so much on the bleeding edge just download the non-vlan beta (Toastman-RT-1.28.7479)

Here is the 'about' with all the pertinent info:

One thing that you will not find currently in TomatoUSBis multiple SSID's.

For the other items in DD-WRT, there is probably an Optware that can be installed to cover it.

So give it a shot. You might like it.

Oh, and I am using a WNR3500l. Works fine handling 6 computers and a WDS.

Latest experimental (Beta) version posted which has all the features of 7480 plus the latest VLAN-GUI mod from Teaman (Augusto Bott).

Toastman-VLAN-BETA-1.28.4403

The VLAN-GUI can be somewhat confusing especially for newcomers, I'd advise that you stick to 7480 if you don't need to set up additional VLANs.

Toastman, do i need to clear

Toastman, do i need to clear the NVRAM when upgrading from 1.28.7475.5 to 1.28.7480? If so, can i backup the settings and apply them to the new build?

It will probably be OK. Remember restoring nvram config is the same as never having erased it. You can use this method instead:

Thanks for your answer! I'll export the settings first and upgrade the firmware without erasing the nvram. If any problems will come up i can always do a 30-30-30 reset and import the settings again. I'm sure it will save me time setting up my router. :)

First, Try turning off any

First, Try turning off any power saving / sleep functions in your wireless card. They can negotiate with the driver in the router to reduce tx power. (These settings receive very little publicity, but they are responsible for most of the poor speeds and "wireless drop" that people complain about).

In Tomato, try turning off unnecessary bells and whistles in the wireless setup page. Especially "Interference Mitigation". Use USA or Singapore as country - as some countries reduce the transmit power by default. Set the router tx power to 60 (the maximum). See if things improve.

There have been many dozens of posts about this issue, search the forums here and Linksysinfo.org. There have been no magic cures, but the interference mitigation has often been the cause of weak signals. Swap between OFF and WLAN AUTO and see if there's any change.

The same wireless driver is used in all recent versions, unless someone can come up with a definitive reason why some people report problems, we won't be able to do anything about it.

Take a look at this:

Measuring signal strength at

Measuring signal strength at 1 inch away is equal in strength to that of 3 houses away? You know, that's impossible, you've just broken the inverse square law. And a 20dB jump between versions is also strange, because the most I've ever seen is around 2-3 dB. Changing from txpwr of 60 to 128 gives you 10dB difference, which is also impossible. You should see around 3dB. But since the maximum on this router is 60, then even that reading makes no sense. Your readings are also inconsistent between changes. Measurement of -56 to -45 an inch away from the antenna is also impossible unless the transmitter is actually broken. I have no idea what is happening there, but there is something really weird about your measurements!

Here is a screenshot showing an RT-N16 and a WRT54GL both running maximum power at the same distance from the receiver (A Dell Laptop running InSSIDer).

As you can see, there is no significant difference between the two routers. This applies to any firmware and any wireless driver and any tomato version that I have picked. The tests are repeatable every time.  If anything, the RT-N16 has a slightly more stable signal level.

It always puzzles me that people report these problems with the RT-N16 because as you can see, it simply doen't happen here.

Hi toastman i am trying to

Hi toastman i am trying to get some help to the following. i have searched the net and found i post from yourself that said to reboot the router i have tried that

I have portforwarded 8080
ext 8080
int 8080
int address 192.168.1.55
desc DVR

but when i go to http://www.dyndns.com/support/tools/openport.html and put in 8080 it errors everytime.
An attempted connection to 82.8.251.130:8080 timed out. This typically indicates that traffic to that port is being actively blocked by either a firewall or your ISP.

Please can anyone help. I have Toastmans. latest firmware tomato-K26USB-1.28.7480MIPSR2-Toastman-RT-Ext

thank you

I had this working perfectly with my wnr2000 portforwarding 8080 to 192.168.1.55

Toastman
Toastman's picture
Port 8080 is used by Tomato

Port 8080 is used by Tomato to access the web GUI from the internet. So you may have a conflict there, try changing it. BTW - you don't need the second "int 8080" unless you also want to redirect the port number.

thank you for the reply

thank you for the reply

I have changed the port from 8080 to 8181 and the problem is still there.

i can access the router gui from 8080 but still no open port on 8181.

I have done some testing with roadkil's scanport version 1.3
and the following show as open
Port 23 Open (telnet)
Port 53 Open (domain)
Port 8080 Open
Port 8181 Open
Port 9100 Open
Port 35484 Open
Port 65559 Open (telnet)
Port 65589 Open (domain)
Port 73616 Open
Port 73717 Open
Port 74636 Open

but the only one that does show open through open port tool is 8080 which as you said is for tomato web.

I have added the last 3 ports to port forwarding and still doesn't work

I have reinstalled the firmware and then downgraded it then back to the same one and now is working oks.

thank you for the help

Hi Toasman,

Hi Toasman,

I just did an upgrade from 1.28.7444 to 1.28.7481 and chose the VPN-NOCAT build.
Alltough I don't think Ill ever use the Captive Portal.

OpenVPN on the other hand.

Ever since I migrated from *cough* M$ Forefront 2010 and configured OpenVPN to use port 443, trouble with connections have been a thing of the past. No Corporate Firewall/Proxy has been able to stand in the way of that.
I have to respect locations where you may not connect alien laptops to their network.

I had some troubles over time ( with the 7444 build ). But nothing a good google session for the right configs could not solve.

All in all, I have not encountered real issues with the firmware itself.
See you at build 7518 ;-)

Latest build 1.28.7483 has a fix for the nonfunctional conntrack/netfilter rtsp helper.

NB: Due to the increasing size of the latest versions I have regretfully removed several of the larger themes, and cut down on the numbers of the simpler ones. Most builds are 200K+ smaller. That will help a number of people in fitting their chosen version into their router!

Anyone who wishes to use another theme, refer to this article:

Don't flash 7627 just yet.

This build causes the router to enter a reboot loop if flashed with NVRAM reset box checked. It will be recoverable by tftp or the Linksys recovery tool.

I've pulled that build until we find out what is wrong.

I started from scratch and rebuilt the whole damned thing starting from Teaman's code.

Tested this build for a day, and it seems good. That's as long as I can test, so now it's
up for grabs!

September 14 2011 - 1.28.7628
K2.4 MIPSR1 (this is for WRT54 and earlier routers).

Rebuilt using the latest technology :-)

This contains VLAN-GUI support and new IPT-Monitor. If this is stable it will

be the new preferred client monitor.

Real-Time and Logged client graphs and statistics.

There is a new engine - cstats, similar to but going much further than the rstats
program. You'll like it when you see it!

Several themes have been removed and color reduction has been done on

theme images to try to conserve space.

heya,

heya,

What are the thoughts on adding some kind of bandwidth usage monitoring to Toastman?

It's a fairly common use-case, particularly in countries where ISPs have download/upload limits - you want to track the usage by each user.

Gargoyle has it integrated (http://www.gargoyle-router.com/), but there are also standalone packages as well.

I've used this package before:

http://code.google.com/p/lal-projects/

and it's quite good, but it's a real pain to setup each time.

Any chance of something like this being integrated into the Toastman builds?

Cheers,
Victor

heya,

heya,

@Toastman: Awesome, that's fantastic =). Can't wait to try it when the K2.6 builds come out!

Hmm, just curious - from the screenshots, I'm guessing it's accessible via the admin interface.

However, is this something that could be exposed through a publicly viewable URL (e.g. http://192.168.1.1/usage.html) - the use case for this is basically, you don't want to give everybody access to the admin interface, but you might want them to see what the usage this month has been?

Thanks again for all the great work you're putting into these builds.

Cheers,
Victor

It's a possibility, but my personal feeling is that once you have given anyone access to the router, you have basically compromised it.

I am also looking forward to getting this going on K26 because Augusto's mods are awsome. But all my routers are RT-N16's these days.

Soon, hopefully....

heya,

heya,

Hmm, I meant just to a single URL, which is world readable. As in, everything else is still protected by the normal admin username/password.

Or do you mean even that would be a security risk? I suppose they could try to use that page as a vector to getting into the app...lol. Maybe enable it, but caveat emptor? Haha.

Can't wait for it to come out =).

Cheers,
Victor

Toastman-RT-1.28.7484.1-BETA for MIPSR2 K2.6

After burning the midnight oil, finally Augusto came along with his magic wand ... and

VOILA!

- QOS-detailed & ctrate filters
- Realtime bandwidth monitoring of LAN clients
- Static ARP binding
- VLAN administration GUI
- Multiple LAN support integration and GUI
- Multiple/virtual SSID support (experimental)

All these goodies from Augusto Bott (Teaman). This is real progress folks!

A special "THANKS" to Augusto, from all of us.

*** Please Note ***

This is a merge of Augusto's code into mine. There may be some unexpected bugs, which
is why I have labelled it as a BETA. Report any bugs by all means, they will be fixed
in due course - but please be patient.

BUG - On larger builds you will have a problem is Webmon is enabled. It won't work and ytou will see some iptables error messages. Internet access will be slow or nonexistent. In the meantime may I ask everyone to please disable WEBMON if it isn't working, and everything else will then be OK. Or use the smaller builds, if you need webmon.

There are a lot of updates to TomatoUSB posted by Fedor today! Welcome Back! We'll
look at them in due course and there will be new builds soon, I expect.

Keep watching this space!

TO TURN IT ON IF YOU NEED IT.

There are a few small bugs we're looking at in this build. The no - USB versions are OK, as is USB-Lite.

None of the errors are serious if you want to try anyway. (webmon not working, some iptables error messages on restrictions page, slowdown of web access - nothing that will brick your router).

In the meantime may I ask everyone to please disable WEBMON if it isn't working, and everything else will then be OK. Or use the smaller builds, if you need webmon.

Toastman

Now, some interesting and

Now, some interesting and welcome news. Teddy Bear has posted a LOT of updates and changes to the git repository, there is a hint that there may be a new "official" tomatoUSB build soon. Thanks Teddy!!

Looks like there's now support for F7D3301, F7D3302, F7D4302, F5D8235v3

The code posted to git is of course experimental, there's no official build containing these commits. However, Teddy Bear's work is always pretty well spot on, and I've been going through it carefully and see no reason not to give it a test. I've been running it online with around 110 user base for 2 days and it seems stable. So I thought I'd post a build with the mods included.

Look for Toastman-RT version 7485-BETA MIPSR2 K26. Please accept that it is based on 1.28.7484-BETA code and be patient waiting for any bugfixes

******

Now - also very interesting, there is a new RT-N branch from Teddy Bear. It incorporates a newer wireless driver - 5.100.138.9 . It appears stable on my E3000 and RT-N16's. Since we'd all like to test it and see what it does, I'm also posting this as 0485 BETA. Again, if it doesn't do what you expected, be patient. I hope I've edited everything OK, but quite possibly I've made some errors.

ANy E4200 users who wish to try it please report back on your findings.

Again, many thanks to Fedor for posting these updates, we greatly appreciate it!

Have fun!
