WNR3500Lv2 Antenna mod!

Hello all Netgear WNR3500Lv2 users!

Check out the modiffication I did on my Netgear unit.

I used the following:
4x  7dBi Antennas > http://www.ebay.com/itm/180399421401?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_3082wt_1163

2x RP-SMA adaptors > http://www.ebay.com/itm/330457462441?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_2795wt_1163

2x Pigtails > http://www.ebay.com/itm/320847624761?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_1628wt_1163

Total of 15$

The antennas are a little bit low grade quality on the build, and may be are not really 7dBi, but the performance change from the stock integrated antennas was great.

The results:
inSSIDer reports over 20 dBm increase. I can achive 5.3 MB/s transfer speed while downloading torrents. Downloading Linux ofcorse :)
I am using Shibby's TOMATO firmware. The power output value is set to 0, which means that the driver will automatically choose the power settings.
I will post more screenshots later.

Conclusion:
This mod is perfect for people that have very crowded 2.4Ghz band envirnment.

Hello kt_haddock.

Hello kt_haddock.

Thank You for your 2 cents, actually they are like 20 euros if I have to be honest :).

So you are saying that by adding the antennas in parallel, I decreased the effective output of the router?
Please confirm the statement above. The 2 cents are really 20 euros :)

Not only would you decrease

Not only would you decrease power with the split connectors, you can also endure interference with that many antennas so close together.

This kit is what i found to be ideal for this unit.

kt_haddock said: I never thougt of 3 antennas inside. When you mod routers with antennas should they have 1/4 wave between eatchother. Then you get ~ 25 - 30db isolation.

I forgot this model doesn't have 3 inside from what i seen, its only a 2 connector inside model, the WNR3500L v1 has 3 connectors inside, i'm not sure what the difference in the MIMO config is on the WNR3500L v2. Thats why i edited that info out.

I have my WNR3500L v2 on the

I have my WNR3500L v2 on the way.

I plan to use AdvancedTomato Shibby Mod 1.28+ on it. I am using plain tomato currently on Cisco E3000

So what i gather from this thread is that I would need just the following items as mentioned in the original post to do the external antenna mod :

4x 7dBi Antennas > http://www.ebay.com/itm/180399421401?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3...

2x RP-SMA adaptors > http://www.ebay.com/itm/330457462441?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3...

2x Pigtails > http://www.ebay.com/itm/320847624761?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3...

Can someone who has successfully done it please reconfirm.

Thanks.
