R7900 Open Source Firmware?

I strongly need to install open source firmware on my R7900 AC3200 router that I picked up from Costco.  Is this possible?  It seems this router is very similar to the R8000, so I wonder how quickly firmware could be turned out for it.

I really want to stick with this router, but the Netgear stock firmware is missing some really basic features such as port forwarding two external port numbers to the same internal port number for the same internal IP address (ex: if RDP port is blocked by a cafe hotspot, then I can retry on an alternate port).  I really also want to continue using optware, especially the asiablock/worldblock scripts.

Is the R7900 similar enough to one of the other AC routers that the Kong firmware could be applied to it?

Did you get a answer? Can you

Did you get a answer? Can you use the R8000 software? I'm looking at getting one.
