Hello everyone,
I have just flashed my router (netgear nighthawk 7000). I am now trying to get VPN support but Im being told it will not work unless I have Big or Mega Ver of flash of DD-WRT ... does anyone know where I can find them? or is there a way around it? I live in Japan and have very good Net but I trying to setup hulu and Amazon for the wife but I have us restrictions popping up.
If you grab Kongs DDWRT file on here
http://www.myopenrouter.com/download/dd-wrt-kong-mod-netgear-r7000-k3-ja...
or go to his site
This is the initial flash to ddwrt from netgear firmware. It seems like you already have ddwrt on it so use the 2nd link
http://desipro.de/ddwrt/K3-AC-Arm/dd-wrt.K3_R7000.chk
If you already have DDWRT on the router you need this file for the full firmware.
http://desipro.de/ddwrt/K3-AC-Arm/dd-wrt.v24-K3_AC_ARM_STD.bin
Once loaded just clear the nvram and your good to go
Weble:
Hi. You have given two links if you already have ddwrt on the R7000? Which one does what?
Thanks.
Lester
Dear Laster
if you are moving from original firmware of the router use "chk file" , which the first file in this case
on the other side , if your router is already using dd-wrt , you may use "bin file" to update it .
However , personally I don't prefer updating the dd-wrt "which is using bin file" . This to avoid router from being bricked . A safer way is to return back to the original firmware then move again to any version of dd-wrt "chk files"
Thank you
Mohammad
By the way , vpn is working very smoothly using
DD-WRT "Kong Mod" for NETGEAR R7000 - K3 Jan 2015
you can configure it using PTPP , L2TP or OpenVpn Client .
they are all working on NetGear R7000

Thanks for your replies.
I assume that OpenVPN still is on version 2.3.8, not yet 2.3.10? I updated a D-Link DIR-826 vB1 with a recent dd-wrt and I was disappointed to see the old version still there. (`openvpn --version`).

Typo: That's a DIR-825 vB1.
Express VPN is still telling me that I don't have "MEGA" or "BIG"... can someone help me out please?
Hi there I too had issues with this however I have tried both tomato and dd-wrt and have got them both working. I assume you have downloaded all the keys from express VPN. I had trouble with Los Angeles keys however the Denver keys worked right away.
I hope this helps.
I am having problems with setting up ExpressVPN using my R7000 and DDWRT
I am using Firmware DD-WRT v3.0-r30560M kongac (09/05/16), after talking to ExpressVPN help and trying the LA and Denver keys they have told me that I need to use a Mega or Big build.
I would be interested to find out what DDWRT build you used to get it to work?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
