How to flash new firmware from dd-wrt gui

I have a R6250 and successfully flashed v3.0-r28600M.  Seemed ok but I wanted to try Tomato, and tried flashing a tomato chk from the dd-wrt administration -> firmware upgrade screen.  After processing for just a second, my browser quickly went to a "page cannot be displayed" screen.  I had to a do a 30/30/30 reset, and then I was able to go back to 192.168.1.1 and see the dd-wrt gui.  However, now when I try to save or apply any changes, it again shows me the "page cannot be displayed" screen, and the new settings are not taken.  I get the same result when trying to flash back the stock OEM netgear firmware.

I also tried to telnet to the router using putty on port 233, but it doesn't work... it gives an error "connection refused".  I've never used putty before, so I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong there.

Any help guys?  Thanks in advance.

Sounds like I have to try

Sounds like I have to try flashing over serial cable, correct?

That post had a link to a guide... http://www.myopenrouter.com/article/52395/How-to-Debrick-or-Recover-NETGEAR-R7000-R6300v2-or-R6250-Wi-Fi-Routers/

but that link is dead.

Can anyone point me to a guide to flash over serial cable?  I'm ok with soldering, but haven't done this kind of flash before.  What PC software flash tool is used, etc?

Thanks!

Hello,

Hello,

I have a WNDR3800 DD-WRT flashed. I would replace dd-wrt with openwrt.

I cannot find an ethernet based solution. I tried tftp and other tricks without success, Is there anyone here who has experiences on this area? Really is the only solution this serial cable based magic?

Thanks, merenyia
