Unable to restore default firmware from tomato

Hi,

I am having a few drop out problems on tomato and would like to go back to the factory firmwear.

If I try and upgrade using the tomato web interface I get the following error and the router reboots back to tomato.

/tmp/flashhUZG4t: Bad trx header

I also tried to upload the default firmwear via tftp and it is unable to connect.

I tried the latest firmwear and the oldest on both methods and neither worked.

Help!

Thanks

Solved.

Solved.

If anyone comes across this later, I flashed ddwrt then from ddwrt flashed the unzipped factory firmwear. After this I did a factory reset and everything is back to stock. Thanks.

hello,

hello,

I've the same problem, i try your solution to use the unzipped factory firmware (.zip but i converter this in .bin) . tomato also accept files in .bin or .trx format.

i would like to flash my R8000 in tomato by shibby to DDWRT, but i cannot do it.

I alway do the 30/30/30 hard reset before and after the flash...

the resultat is also : /tmp/flashbZVpZM: Bad trx header

all firmware i try (ddwrt, factory firmware) are in .chk format, i convert them in trx or bin format, nothing running...

have you another idea or the flash tomato to factory firmware to ddwrt or directly tomato -> ddwrt in trx format?

thank you!!!

PS : sorry for my bad english...

what do you mean with

what do you mean with "convert them"? How?

Also note that 30/30/30 is no longer needed on current ARM devices. That's a relic from the past

I convert the .chk file to

I convert the .chk file to .trx file, just to change name. it don't run.

after, I convert the official firmware (.zip to .bin). after, i try to decompress the .zip file to compress that in .bin format, no running.

in the mirror, i don't find the .bin or .trx file.

my R8000 actually running in tomato by shibby AIO 136. i want to flash my router in DDWRT firmware... is it possible?

maybe to use a kill firmware? where can i to find it?

try to flash in openwrt firmware before to flash in ddwrt? ( i do it in my old linksys WRT54)

but i don't want to do stupid actions...

if you want to go from Tomato

if you want to go from Tomato to DD-WRT, then you'll FIRST have to go back to original firmware. Download the back-to-original file for the R8000 and flash it in Tomato. If successful, you'll see the NETGEAR firmware after the router comes up. Then download the correct DD-WRT files and flash them inside the NETGEAR firmware

hello, microchip,

hello, microchip,

you're right, it's my procedure... tomato ->factory firmware -> ddwrt.

i just to try with the "back-to-original" file, the result is :

/tmp/flasheJQzDS: Bad trx header

i think than the problem is the file format : .CHK and not in the trx format...

maybe in the tftp method?

if i can permise, il see than in the mirror, the back-to-original files for the R7000 is in .trx format, can i use that? my rpouter is the R8000, it will not running in the tribanb but i can flash that in ddwrt built by kong for R8000?

I don't know why you get bad

I don't know why you get bad header. It should just work. don't use anything that's not for the R8000. The files for the R7000 are only for the R7000. Try the TFTP method and see what happens

Flash a working DDWRT

Flash a working DDWRT firmware in .bin format for your router version,  then revert to stock if you are trying to get out of tomato.

=> rayw2k16 : I search a DDWRT for R8000' firmware in .bin format, did you know where i find this? and the back to origin in .trx or .bin format?

best regards and thank you for your help...

@Archer T

@Archer T

According to DD-WRT's database, the R8000 is WIP (Work in Progress) so there's no firmware for it yet. Of course, assuming the database of DD-WRT is up-to-date :)

I had the same issue and I

I had the same issue and I was able to get back to stock firmware by first installing the Beta firmware from the DD-WRT database using the .bin file then installing the stock firmware.

Hope this help :)
