So I upgraded my router, netgear R6400, and my extender, EX6200, with Kong's DD-WRT 30020 (and mini) build. They reason for this is because of how my network is setup. I keep experience lags on my playstation network no matter how much I changed the settings on the router, this is pre-kong. I used DMZ, UPnP, port forward, QoS and the like to find out the extender can't forward the ports from the router. I was in a dilemma until I came across dd-wrt. Which was the magic bullet to my problems. I wanted it to still be an extender but configure it like I would a router, QoS, DMZ, portforward and UPnP. (Note: I don't like to use DMZ if the QoS and port forwarding work. I set up everything correctly, i thought, as a repeater bridge off the router and made the settings exactly the same, as far as SSID password algorithms and password goes, and port forward and UPnP.
I did all of this so I could finally get an Open Nat on the PS3, I was always running moderate and for BO3 zombies it was strict. Everything was setup and I went to play black ops 2 and the connection was.... FANTASIC! I actually was able to hold 4 bars the whole game, as opposed to a max of 3 on a good day with no one using the internet.
My only problem thus far is I cannot have any wireless clients on the repeater bridge, I find that very annoying. Does anyone else experience similar problems, any fix? We're about to upgrade our internet package and would really like to utilize the new network speeds.
I also want to use the whole marketing strategy of "Fast Lane Technology" I hear it prevents the whole, half speed thing that comes from hooking up an extender.
Looking at http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/24695/~/how-to-enable-fast... - looks like you use the 5ghz for your client on the extender and the 2.4 ghz for the uplink from the extender to the AP. So if your clients are 2.4ghz only, they will not connect to the extender.
I guess you could do the other way - have 2.4ghz for clients only and 5ghz for the uplink from the extender.
I know how to setup the "fast lane technology" using netgears firmware. That wasn't my question, I'm running Kong's custom DD-WRT firmware and want to know how to set it up through that one, it's not as straight forward. my main concern though is why I cannot have any wireless clients when I set up my extender as a repeater bridge.
There isn't any magical setting. Are you using 2.4GHz clients near the extender? If so, use the 5GHz for the uplink. If you have 5GHz clients, use the 2.4GHz.
