Flashing using the genie app?

Hello,

I have a question about if i can flash my, never been set up, nighthawk R7000 with the kong mod of dd-wrt not using the netgear genie app? i have read through so many articles, forums, etc.. Some say I can, but most say "using the genie app".  Please advise, all comments will be appredciated, as i have not been programming an such for the last 10 years. I am using Linux Ubuntu OS.

Or, should i take back the router and exchange it for something better? It was purchased at Best Buy.

Yes, this is possible using

Yes, this is possible using an USB-TTL-adapter. For more information about how to flash the router with this adapter please follow the steps in the debrick guide for the R7000. It's a bit complicated, but it works. Instead of using the stock firmware mentioned in the guide use xour DD-WRT firmware file for flashing.
