ive signed up to expressvpn and hoped to just put credentials in my router to forward all lan connected devices over vpn.
enabling vpn doesnt seem to give me anywhere to add my expressvpn service. ???

You will have to install DD-WRT firmware on you router (which has to be supported for your model/brand). Or your router needs to support this with the default firmware, which is not the case most of the time.
