Bandwidth throttling: which flash package?

Assuming a guy isn't really good at networking, but is capable of doing a flash on his WNR3500 - my question is this:

Which of the available flash/software packages is the best for bandwidth throttling?  Supposing that they are all capable of doing the task, which of them is easiest to configure?

My needs aren't especially complicated.  I share a 1 MB DSL connection with 4 other users.  Those users aren't very considerate, starting downloads right when someone else is busy gaming, and when everyone happens to be online, trying to surf.  I need something similar to trickle or wondershaper, which will control those downloads.  In fact, I had wondershaper working beautifully, before we added WIFI to the mix.  My attempts at arp spoofing, and bandwidth shaping from my own computer have been unsatisfactory.

It appears that one or more of the packages available here should work great - but which one?  I'd rather not spend a day or more figuring each of them out, and running the risk of bricking my router with each flash while doing so.   (we have very unreliable electric service, and I've killed two mainboards during flash in the past 8 years)  :(

If one or more of the forum members says that Tomato will best suit my needs, I'll just go with that the first time, and stop experimenting.  Or, OpenWRT, or FreeWRT, as the case may be.

Thanks for any advice!

Well - I've done it. I've

Well - I've done it. I've received my 3500, and I've downloaded Toastman's latest build. I can't say which of these firmwares would best suit my needs - but Toastman's tutorial http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.php?threads/using-qos-tutorial-and-disc... should cover all my questions as I go.

Will post back later, with progress . . .

Well - I should have kept

Well - I should have kept notes, so that I could document the steps, and how easy it really is. But - I didn't do so. In hindsight, I can say that someone who is doing this for the first time should read through the how-to once at least, put it away, come back a day or two later, and read it again. Sleep on it, THEN get started. As always, I jump in with both feet, and get way ahead of my brain, LOL!

There is nothing really "difficult" for a person who is technically minded, but it is rather involved for people who don't do this sort of thing often.

RTFM, then RTFM again, then, finally, RTFM one more time, then when you start, keep TFM open in front of you! Ideally, print it out, just in case something goes wrong!

RTFM is shorthand for "Read

RTFM is shorthand for "Read The Freaking Manual". Substitute a common vulgarity, if you like - most people do when they are shouting this at you!
