At the moment i have a sitecom Wl - 183 router, but due to 4 thick solid walls and 15-20metres apart, i have a low signal in my room.
I was planning to connect and extra router (the WNR 3500L) via a wired connection to my old router. To the netgear 3500L will then be connected to an external USB HDD.
My concern is if this will result is a slow connection limited by my old router since i will need to transmit the signal for video streaming as well as data sharing [and could use all the data rate i can get from the NAS].
There is also a considerable load on the network, 2-3pc [wired], 2 laptops, 3 phones.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, i haven't yet bought anything so if you think i should proceed differently please tell me

Your WL-183 is an 802.11b/g/n router with 100Mbps Ethernet. The WNR3700L is similar, but with faster 1Gbps Ethernet (and a USB port). On the wired side, your bottleneck will be the WL-183's Ethernet, not the WNR3500L. On the wireless side, you should see no decrease in speed and probably an increase.
Your "load" is not considered considerable for the WNR3500L. With my WNR3500L, I operate 2 x wired PC's + 5 x wireless PC's + 1 x phone + 1 x wired printer + an attached external USD HDD, all with no problems.
Because of the good range of the WNR3500L, you may find that even do not need the WL-183.

that's what i was thinking, i will try it out without my old router or use the 3500L as the main router [with all the wired connections to it] and my old router just to extent the range to some parts for wifi only.
hopefully i will get faster data rates, at the moment the maximum file transfer rate from pc to laptop is only 5mb/s when it is a couple of cm away from the antenna, and this is on an N wifi.
