Help with WGR614L

First, I've gotten DD-WRT on the router. That isn't the problem. The problem I do have is that as soon as I change any settings via the Web GUI it doesn't work anymore. It starts to behave erratically, and eventually my connections to the router and out to the internet stop working.

I've been following the threads at the DD-WRT forums about this router and it looks like it really isn't ready for prime time.

So, I've decided to try going back to the Netgear firmware for now. Unfortunately, in DD-WRT web gui, every time I try to apply another firmware, I now get an error that says, "Incorrect Image File."

I am really frustrated and I would appreciate any help I can get just getting this thing working for now. It doesn't seem like there's much traffic on these boards some I'm really hoping someone here can help me out.

This is quite unnatural. I guess, somehow some of your nvram settings
have been changed. Can you please reset the board and try it again?
If you want switch to the Netgear firmware, you need to have the serial
console since the you can not save configuration from UI. Please refer
to the link below for how to get the serial cable working -
http://www.myopenrouter.com/article/10341/Recover-Your-WGR614L-Using-a-Serial-Console-Windows/.
For uploading image using cosole please follow the this link -

Good luck

Thanks for your message. I have reset the router many times. I have used a process of elimination about which default settings I can change after reset. At this point, I can change the outbound connection to PPPoE and set the authentication credentials. I can change the security to WPA 2 Personal and set that password. If I leave it at that, it works. If I change anything more I risk making the router inoperable. In my last attempt, I changed the SSID from the default "dd-wrt." That somehow caused my outbound connection to go down. It doesn't make sense, but that's what's happening. LAN routing still worked.

I have tried different browsers, etc. I don't run a Windows box so I can't use IE but I shouldn't really have to anyway. It's just blowing me away how temperamental it is and I'm really wishing that I hadn't flashed the router with an outdated version of dd-wrt that I can't even upgrade.

This site should really stop offering that version of dd-wrt - either that or getting a working version of v24 SP1 up for users to download.

Thanks playdrums for all your

Thanks playdrums for all your effort. The dd-wrt version published in this site works fine for me and many others. I am not sure what is happening at your end but would really like to investigate your issue. Do you have serial console ready? can you please send me the console dump of the concerned image so that I can debug the issue.

I don't have a serial console

I don't have a serial console. I am not a hobbyist with regard to this stuff and I didn't really have any intention of opening this device up and soldering anything inside. I really bought it because I wanted a router that would run dd-wrt at home.

What is the current timeframe to get a version of dd-wrt v24 SP1 that will work on this router?

Nachi is working with the dd

Nachi is working with the dd-wrt developers and posted a new version in dd-wrt forum. This is yet not been posted here because we are waiting for some users feedback. You can download this image and use it. Please refer to the thread below - http://dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=32799&postdays=0&postorder=asc&...

Good Luck

The current dd-wrt install

The current dd-wrt install will not upgrade via the web gui with that .chk file. I erased the nvram via ssh before trying to upgrade. I get the message about "invalid image file" when I try to upgrade with it. Eko at dd-wrt has indicated that I must use the generic .bin file to upgrade. However, I have heard that the generic broadcom bricks this router. What is the path directly from the FC07 version available here to the latest SP1 version nachi is working on?

I am not running Windows, I am running Mac OS X. IE has not been maintained for quite some time on Mac OS X. I have used both Safari and Firefox. I certainly hope the dev team for dd-wrt is not embracing vendor specific extensions for their web gui.

Maybe I can take it to work and try a PC tomorrow.
