Internet speed with and without a Netgear 3500Lv2

Hi all,

I recently had a Comcast cable modem installed--a dramatic increase from DSL. :-)  Using speedtest.net to measure, when the modem is directly connected to my computer I get 31 Mb/s upload.  When I connect the cable model to a Netgear 3500Lv2 (stock firmware) and Ethernet cable to my computer, the upload speed drops to about 20 Mb/s.  Is this difference to be expected?  That is, is there a limit imposed by the router itself that explains this?

Sorry if this is a naive question, but I'm just getting this thing set up.

Thanks,

Curt

You shouldn't get a slower

You shouldn't get a slower speed going through the router. Are you running the stock firmware or something else?
In my tests going through the router I get the maximum speeds that is provided.
