I am not sure what application you are shooting for - if dd-wrt or openwrt works then you can have both.
DD-WRT has OpenVPN support. You can try out their binaries or can build yourself from the source code or use one of their subscriptions. They also possibly can make a build for with ZFS configured.
The NETGEAR
RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router with USB (WNR3500L) will be
available in Fall 2009 through select retailers, direct marketers,
e-commerce sites and value-added resellers. The router is backed by a
one-year warranty and 24/7 technical support, and has an MSRP in the
U.S. of $139.99
Any estimates of VPN throughput, whether via PPTP or OpenVPN (whichever's faster)? Trying to see whether it's feasible for my college organization (newspaper) to run our own LAN with a higher-performance VPN than the school's main Juniper solution. We get 100 Mbps ports but might be able to upgrade to gigabit for the WAN port on the router (which will be used as wired-only) so 50+ Mbps would be awesome.
I have just installed my WNR3500L using the supplied Netgear installation/setup CD.
My intention is to have my WNR3500L as a VPN server so that I can remotely access the FreeNAS box on my home network with only the modem, router and FreeNAS box turned on.
Are there any instructions available on how this can be done (if it is possible)?
Does openvpn run on WNR3500L Router ?? If it is working, please let me know how it is getting done.

Wijendra.

The OpenVPN download is at

It is also entirely possible to configure OpenWRT to use the openvpn package if you so desire.
Thanks
