Opening a port for Transmission on Voxel's R7800 with VPN

Hello,

just a (stupid) question, I have Voxel's firmware and a VPN client set up on my R7800.

I want to use Transmission on the router, and I was wondering: if I open a port in /etc/netwall.conf for Transmission, will the Transmission's traffic still go through the VPN?

Guys,

Guys,

I figured out that when using a VPN service, it is the VPN provider's job to manage port forwarding between their server and our VPN client. So my understanding is that all I have to do is to point to the internal port that was set on the VPN server.

After some research, I found contradictory information regarding ExpressVPN port forwarding but I saw somewhere that 80 is that internal port. So I pointed Transmission to port 80 and it indeed appears as open (whatever number I tried before appeared as closed in Transmission).

But that raises a few question:

1- is this the good approach when using OpenVPN?

2- if so, do I have to declare that port in a firewall config file as well?

3- And finally, is the traffic being forwarded that way still protected by the VPN?

Sorry for all the questions, that might seem obvious to some of you but I'm new to this and eager to learn. I'd appreciate some guidance.

Thanks,
