QoS in tomatoe

Ok, installed DD-Wrt and found out that QoS is broken.  What i am wondering is tomatoes QoS for the wnr3500l working in the curent beta build.

I have already had to dumb down the router to G due to the fact that we have 3 items that run on G and only one that uses N.  as far as that goes, would like to get QoS working as me and my roomate aer gamers and every once in awhile when we are gaming either he or i get some news group dl's going and it kills our gaming,

so any info/help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

14311 is the build i have,

14311 is the build i have, but when i was reading the dd-wrt forums is when i ran across the QoS script Generator in it no working , hence the reason i said QoS is broken. And so now i am thinking of trying tomato and seeing if QoS works with it. I have not tried any of the newer builds of dd-wrt.

14311 is pretty old and has a few nasty bugs. It could be true that some older scripts are not working since there were a few changes, but the Qos setup via webinterface should work.

Sure -

Sure -
First, it's important to know that the ORDER in which you place a rule is important.
If you want to ensure that your personal PC, for example, gets HIGHEST priority on all activity, make a rule for your IP address or MAC (src mac), for any port / any protocol, and make that the first rule in the list.

The rules are processed in that list order, and once the activity in question matches a rule, they match a rule, they don't go any further down the chain.

So look at your rules, and remember that the QOS is being defined on OUTBOUND connections - but this helps with incoming traffic too, because by limiting the outgoing packets, you are limiting or slowing acknowledgments, etc.

well i have now ran into a

well i have now ran into a new issue and not sure what it is, every once in a awhile he will stream netflix to his ps3 and it just lags out even with QoS setup. so not sure exactly what to do in a situation like this it seemsto run fine with out the streaming to the ps3 but then again he will after some time have issues with his comp lagging out also. have not really changed anything since i got the QoS setup. but also it is very agravating trying to get it working correctly. so for though i like the way tomato is working as i have had no issues my self, it just seems to be with the wireless setup. not sure if it is maybe the ps3/his laptop or what that is having issues.

Ok - in your default / basic

Ok - in your default / basic QOS setup make sure your up and down values are not more than 85% of the speed that your provider says you have. This allows for overhead and the variability of the internet bandwidth actually available. Most people say this should be 80%.

that's the value at which the throttling really gets going...

Then look at the device list. On the device list it will show the wireless RSSI and connection rate for the unit. These are important.

Also -

Also -
you can create L7 protocol priorities for specific games / etc.
Just make sure you don't do "highest" for everything - obviously that's not going to help.

Try to set your IP P2P stuff to lower priorities.

web - ui.

web - ui.
Click on QOS in the left menu.
Then enable QOS and set the basic classifications. Leave the classes alone at the begininning, just set the "max upload" and max download, scroll down and save.

When you create the rule in the web GUI, you have a drop down that asks which class. Default is typically "low" - which is fine for general web browsing, if you set your max rates correctly.
