DD-WRT "Kong Mod" vs. Voxel's version & best settings

Hi everyone,

I just got my R7800 to use it as my VPN router (client & server) and flashed it with the "Kong Mod". Everything works just fine, great version.

Then I saw that Voxel has compiled his own version and everyone's raving about that one.

So how do the two compare? Why should I prefer Voxel's version over the "Kong Mod"?

And as a second question, does anyone have a list of general router settings to improve the speed, i.e. TX rate, QoS, Multibeaming etc.? I'm not a gamer, but I do use video streaming and all the other usual things.

Best,
Martin

Hi,

Hi,

Perhaps most short answer is here (DD-WRT forum):

https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1068672&sid=edf4c2de108acf...

(at the bottom of page). If you need more advanced functionality which could be set from GUI then DD-WRT. If speed first of all then my build (hardware acceleration).

I do not have OpenVPN client yet, only plans:

Hi Voxel,

Hi Voxel,

thanks for your reply. I'd love to use your firmware version, but I do need an OpenVPN client. I would be more than happy with a really simple config option, even just copying the ovpn file via SSH / Telnet, as long as there's an OpenVPN client running that I can use.

Since I'm very familiar with different Linux flavors I wouldn't have a problem manually configuring everything. But I guess for most people some sort of GUI would be preferable. But maybe a simple GUI accessible through a local webserver at a different address / port would be an alternative if you can't change anything in the official GUI.

Overall I'm sure everyone would love the combination of an optimized stock firmware and an OpenVPN client.

Best,

Martin

HI there guys, very new here,

HI there guys, very new here, managed to load kongs dd-wrt onto my R7800 last week, and so far im not that impressed, wifi speeds have been all over the place and just hasnt felt stable, I tried changing to LEDE but that was a fail and have no idea how to change the firmware back, I'd like to possibly try out voxels, can you give me some quick pointers how to quickly change to this firmware instead???
