Convert r8300 to r8500 (costco x8 to retail x8) - need a boardid

Hi all. I'm trying to find the board id for the R8500 so that I can convert my Costco r8300 to an 8500 for a kong ddwrt build. I did something similar for a costco r6900 to R7000 and it worked perfectly. I'm looking to install PIA VPN on the router itself. Any help (as in, what is the board id for R8500) would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Even more interesting, I just compared the most recent update files for both routers. The files were identical except for the file names

Final update for you, I

Final update for you, I flashed the R8500 firmware from Netgear to the R8300. The firmware flashed successfully. I believe that this being an R8300 is only by name and the missing USB port.

I will let you try the DDWRT part.

So, I was able to update

So, I was able to update using the R8500 firmware, but my router status is still saying r8300. Can you confirm if yours says the same? If the board IDs are the same, the.chk ddwrt firmware should work, but it is not. I'm still getting "The firmware is not compatiable with your router. Error code -2. "

I tried burnboardID with this

I tried burnboardID with this ID you gave and reset nvram. It still sees it as an 8300. Thoughts?

Sorry for taking so long to

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, I no longer have the router. However when I compared the board ids they were the same. There must be something burnt into the chipset telling the router it is something different.

Any update on this, either

Any update on this, either updating the board or flashing the R8500 ddwrt to the R8300?

I purchased the R8300 from Costco as well and may end up returning it if I can't find a working solution.

Actually? Yes. I was able to

Actually? Yes. I was able to flash it to the R8500 by downloading the firmware from Netgear's site. After that, I loaded the ddwrt 8500 build it and flashed successfully. I know have an active "8500" on ddwrt. I highly recommend going for it.

1st i upgraded the firmware
1st i upgraded the firmware to "R8500-V1.0.2.128_1.0.97.chk" (from the NetGear Website) (exact same file as the 83, and actually after update, it still said R8300).

2nd, upgraded the firmware to "dd-wrt.K3_R8500.chk" using the latest "dd-wrt.K3_R8500_20180531.zip"

3rd Logged on, everything seems to be working fine.
