Help for a non tech person with a netgear router

Hi my N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router —WNDR4000 will not maintain a wireless connection.  I am not a techy person.  Just someone who had help setting this up about 3 years ago and about 6 to 8 weeks ago the wireless network in my house that I use to store files on a computer upstairs and a laptop downstairs has stopped staying connected.

The connection comes and goes, since last night it will not connect at all.  I worked with my DSL provider this morning as the DSL signal comes into a Westell model 327W and that appears not to me the issue.  My question:

Netgear WNR3500L/U/v2 is a v1 or v2

Just to take away my last doubts on which build I need:

 

Is the Netgear WNR3500L/U/v2 a WNR3500Lv2 or a Netgear WNR3500L? The /U/v2 has me confused.

Hi all,

I just bought a Netgear router advertised as a "WNR 3500l v1 Open Source with pre-installed DD-WRT".  It's up and running with all my wireless devices (2 Android cellphones, an iPod Touch and a tf101 tablet) and wired devices (Raspberry Pi and Home PC) connecting perfectly.

NooB question #1:  From the DD-WRT control panel my router is indicated as s "Netgear WNR3500v2/U/L".  I checked the FCC id number on the back of the router (FCC id   PY308400093) and from what I've read that means I have a v1....no? 

pptp settings help.

this is my problem.

 

im using a vpn service to hide my real ip adress,its working great but i have one problem.

when the vpn service disconnects, its not often, but it happens, anyway when that happens my real ip connects and i show my real ip, and i dont want that.

is there any way to prevent the router to connect to my real ip when the vpn connection goes down?

I had 2 NetGear WNR3500Lv2 with Tomato (beta) Version 1.28. I installed them in 2010, but each router broked. I bought a new one and I thought I search a new tomato version. First I upgraded Netgear firmware to DD-WRT, because old time it was the first step. After I found Shibby's works, so I try upgrade it to 108-AIO (tomato-Netgear-3500Lv2-K26USB-1.28.RT-N5x—108-AIO).

where can I find the required knowledge base to customize the standard firmware?

I read the only article present on this site belonging this and I downloaded the code and toolchain too, but I need to study something before to approach the mod.

I'm not a newbie of the I.T. world because I'm an active software developer but without any kind of experience about modding firmwares for routers.

This would be a training to improve my knowledge, so any resource is really appreciated: forums, ebooks, articles, required prerequisites and so on..

WRN3500Lv1: doubts about alternative firmwares

Hi to all, guys!

This is my first time here and i've a doubt about custom firmwares.

I read the description of the features of some alternative firmwares (in example Tomato by Shibby) and I like some of those features, but I see that some of the default features are not listed.

Should I consider them implicitally included?

In example, I'm currently using (with standard firmware) the guest second wi-fi, but I don't see it as standard feature os the alternative firmwares.

i have been reading articles and right now i am using 2 routers to achieve what i want but i want to be able to only use 1 router. i want to have the vpn run only on 2 computers and the rest use the reg wan is this possible if so i greatly appreciate your feedback to this long ongoing issue.
