The bash script below uses python2 to obtain my wan ip address from my genie router.

You'll need save the text and chmod a+x the script file to make it executable.

Edit to change location of your python 2.x, user name, password and the ip address wher your router sits.  The double hit is to fix errors where the user/password dialog sometimes fails (for me at least).

Does DD-WRT have hardware acceleration and will it work with fiber optic providers. I would like to get the best DD-WRT from Kong and try it out if it works.  I have no idea how to install DD-WRT installation on my Netgear R7000 router. I would like the latest version that is available and stable release.

I've read Kong's page for builds and what issues they address but as a newbie it's difficult to determine if the latest build in an accumulation of fixes for all previous builds or I need to pick a build based on what issues I can live with and what I can't. Can anyone on this forum help me out?

When using the R7000 I have a vigor 120 adsl modem for internet access. I used to have a tplink adsl modem running in bridge mode with a wnr3500l toastman tomato as router.

The vigor adsl modem is running in bridge mode (by default I think); it does have a web interface on 192.168.2.1. 

Can I stop Genie dsiplaying wireless passwords by default

I've been playing with both a D6300 and R7000 routers since my old setup went bad. I noticed that both run something from netgear called Genie. However, it seems pretty stupidly tp show the wifi access passwords in plain text on the home page. Is there any way to stop doing this?

Hi,

This morning I went out to pick up a brand new Nighthawk R7000. I wanted to upgrade to Shibby's initial Tomato release for OPENVPN with PIA.

Here are the exact steps that I did:

-Plugged her in and logged in via wireless. It prompted me for a default username and password (WPA2) that came with the router.

I am planning to flash my R7000 with dd-wrt.v24-K3_AC_ARM_STD_OLDD.bin but I'm not sure if that's the right of the 4 options.  What are the differences and which is best?
